1971- Personal computer
The invention of microprocessors in 1971 assisted in significantly decreasing the size of the massive computers that existed during this time. A company called Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS) created a successful build-it-yourself computer kit, called Altair, with basic functions. MITS hired two Harvard students , Paul G. Allen and Bill Gates, to improve the Altair's software. The two were successful and they changed Altair's name to Microsoft. Early PCs could obviously not perform many of the functions that today's computers can. Users could perform mathematical calculations and play a small variety of games.
1971- floppy disk
Created by IBM engineers led by Alan Shugart, the memory disks were made of flexible plastic and used to record computer data. The disk was considered to be a revolutionary device in computers at the time.
One or two sides of the disk are used to record, and the disk could only hold 100 KBs of data.
